SWITCH Innovation Award discontinued

The Innovation Award – SWITCH’s prize aimed at promoting innovations – is to be discontinued. The reason for this is the ever-smaller number of entries submitted.

SWITCH launched the Innovation Award in 2002, on the occasion of its 15th anniversary, under the name of SWITCHaward. In 2003, no award was made, due to the insufficient quality of the entries.

Winning projects

On 19 October 2004, Roman Bleichenbacher’s “codecheck.ch” project won the award, in 2005 "meteoblue.ch" by Matthias Müller was the winning project and then, in 2006, it was “Mission Eternity” by the etoy artists’ group that received the Innovation Award.

"In the course of the years, there has been a constant reduction in the number of projects submitted." explains Marco D'Alessandro from SWITCH. "For this reason, we have taken the decision to discontinue the competition.”

Unlike the Innovation Award, the Junior Web Award, SWITCH's national website contest for school classes, is becoming increasingly popular. In 2007, more than 2000 pupils entered for the competition, submitting a total of 119 projects. In view of the highly positive echo from pupils and teaching staff alike, SWITCH is organising the competition for a second time in 2008. So far, 270 project teams have entered, and around 100 projects are already registered on the island.
