The jury paid tribute to the winner's project with the following words:

Codecheck has the potential to offer a wide range of information on commercial goods, which is often not made available by the companies selling them. It uses the omnipresent bar code to provide alternative relevant product information such as declarations on allergenic substances. This is drawn from scientific, technical or medical online-databases and is therefore always up to date. Consumers also have the possibility to add more information or comments to products, to review comments of other web users, or integrate new products in to the database.

The innovative quality of codecheck lies in the social concern inherent in making relevant and critical information available independently of commercial interests as well as in interlacing the possibilities of the internet with everyday life in the physical world. The jury also considers its design and functionality to be adequate and hopes to enable the project to find a means of expanding its database and of becoming a more widely used consumer information tool.
